Van Riel supreme in Dubai to win first T100 Triathlon World Championship Crown
Introducing Long Distance Triathlon
Following the triathlon format of swim-bike-run, the long-distance events are usually held over double or triple the length of the standard-distance races.
Athletes must possess high levels of stamina and endurance, with elite races lasting up to seven hours. One major difference between standard and long-distance events is that elite athletes are not allowed to draft on the bike, so many of the top athletes come from a strong cycling background.
Among the great names to have won the title over the years are Lionel Sanders (CAN), Lucy Charles Barclay (GBR), Javier Gomez (ESP) and Helle Frederiksen (DEN) and the 2023 event will take place as part of the 2023 World Triathlon Multisport Championships Ibiza.
