Paratriathlon for Paralympics: 1 month to go
ITU, the world governing body for the Olympic sport of Triathlon, is calling attention to its bid to be accepted by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) as an addition to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games sports programme.
This week marks the one-month mark from when the IPC Governing Board will make its final decision on which sports, if any, are to be added to the programme.
If chosen as one of the sports, Paratriathlon will realize a dream that has long been held by those close to the sport, and become a catalyst in promoting the abilities of disabled athletes worldwide.
“Paratriathlon has the ability to inspire and excite, one of the primary visions of the Paralympic movement,” says The Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE.
“Achieving an extraordinary profile for the sport within the Paralympic family is a major commitment for ITU,” said Marisol Casado, ITU President and IOC Member.
“With its fresh, exciting and dynamic essence, the sport is growing rapidly and increasing participations in both elite and “sport for all” populations regardless of abilities.”
The ‘Paratriathlon For Paralympics’ awareness campaign has continued into the world of social media, with a Facebook group “Paratriathlon for Paralympics” set up to promote the bid and for fans to voice their support.
